Revised draft

Homosexuality shall be defined by the act itself, i.e. the sexual intimacies occurring between two people of the same sex, rather than the “queer” culture conceptualizations. It is arguable that homosexuals who claim themselves to be gay not by the act it self-but, rather, off of “queer” culture concepts. It eludes the idea that men claiming themselves to be gay upon such standards may be heterosexual and ones that engage in the act itself and not the “queer” culture are in fact heterosexuals.
“Queer” culture is a phenomenon where gay men define and construct their identities on what society says is right for gay men to live by. Men who claim to live this lifestyle at large tend to also have rigorous gender roles that often reflect effeminate tendencies. This results in assumptions’ and stereotypes that gay men could have knowledge of the fashion industry, art, cooking taking on effeminate roles or even, possibly having, the desire to be women. Another perception within the “queer” culture is that gay men are promiscuous whores who do not have the ability to have monogamous relationships. All of these concepts are associated with men who do not necessarily enjoy the idea of being sexual with the same sex, however because they act “differently” within the heterosexual gender roles, they are then considered to be gay and force themselves to live this lifestyle.
The idea that gay men must adhere to such choices, as a homosexual or one that does not refer to rigid gender roles, refers to their “social” identities, as homosexuals, and not the sexual act itself. Therefore it creates a culture. If homosexuality is a socially constructed form of behavior and not necessarily having to do with the act itself then perhaps there is not a clear definition of what homosexuality is. Homosexual men that follow such concepts are characters rather than human beings with feelings. Gay men who closely follow roles of the “queer” culture are puppets of falsely social constructed behaviors that often emulate effeminate qualities. Within this cultural phenomenon there are practices where this form of life is largely celebrated with parades. The idea that parades and towns are needed to celebrate homosexuality further relates it to an act than a natural tendency. For not all men understand the same things such as art, cooking, baking amongst other “queer” culture concepts. Such principals are learned and practiced making one a slave to a lifeless culture full of meaningless short-lived pleasures.

Once, gay or straight men become, part of this “queer” culture, It is nearly impossible to separate yourself from the stereotypes that come along with concept of being a homosexual: sadly, whether you are gay or not. The character (i.e. the gay man based upon “queer” culture) takes over the ability to differentiate you as an individual human being. It is as if you stripped yourself of personality becoming a slave to a false identity. A homosexual should not follow the socially constructed ideals having to take on a character based upon societal standards of what homosexuality is. Rather the homosexual should be an individual whom enjoys sexual intimacies with the same sex, one that does not follow rigorous lifestyle changes. For that is homosexuality in its purest form without the idea that there are socially constructed behaviors that must associate themselves with homosexuality.
A very common miss perception within the “queer” culture concept is that men who dress well, cook, bake or who are into art are homosexual. Therefore men who may not enjoy sexual relations with men, yet dress fashionably or have effeminate tendencies are considered homosexual. Due to the amount of pressure that may be placed on the individual it may cause them to come out of the closet when in fact they are heterosexual. This can be very detrimental to ones health as the individual is living a life of lies and mass confusion.
Therefore it is permissible to state that men who mess around and claim they want “straight” acting men, are men that may actually be true homosexuals. This concept approaches the idea that men will combat against social standards, ones that are applied to homosexuals, to simply enjoy sex and not live a false “queer” lifestyle. When men desire relations with men that are “straight” acting it is applying homosexuality to its purest form, the idea that men have sexual relations with men without the social standards on behavior. This phenomenon raises the idea that “queer” culture was created, desired and lived, whereas homosexuality has been around, which is the act.
In conclusion, men that tend not to follow societal standards of the “queer” culture may be the homosexuals. Whereas a vast majority of the men who claim to be homosexual may have fooled themselves into adapting a lifestyle that do not enjoy and feel as if they are in a play as a character. It is crucial to look at homosexuality for the act i.e. the intimate relations between people of the same sex rather than the socially constructed signals we send such as “queer” culture.

  1. The distinction your are making is an interesting topic. In general, your thesis needs work and your points needs to be supported. Inferences to examples rather than generalizations would aid the reader's comprehension. I would like to know more about the origin of queer culture and how it has changed over time, such as San Francisco Bay's history.

  2. Sorry this is not the most current draft. The thesis is unclear, choppy and lacks evidential support. I will post the revised copy.
